Demon Slayer just wrapped up its absolutely incredible season 2 Entertainment District Arc yesterday, ending not with a big fight, which was last week, but an exploration of the tragic backstory of the sibling Upper Six demons.
The show has been a massive global hit, and as such, Ufotable has already announced that season 3 is on the way, and it is going to be the Swordsmith Village Arc.
No, we don’t have a Demon Slayer Season 3 release date yet. A year from now would be Winter/Spring 2023, but it’s hard to use the gap from last season as a judgement point, given COVID delays and the Mugen Train movie, which served as an interim offering. No such in-between movie appears to be happening before season 3, however.
The SwordsmithVillage arc should cover around 25 or so chapters of the manga, similar to the length of the Entertainment District Arc, so I’d expect a 10-12 episode season. The Swordsmith Arc begins with Tanjiro heading back to Swordsmith Village to get another new weapon, and naturally, things go awry when demons show up. Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji and Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito will be two of the primary new characters this time around, even if Tengen Uzui did survive season 2. Hopefully he’s living the good life retired with his three wives.
I highly recommend catching up with both seasons of Demon Slayer and Mugen Train before season 3 arrives. You have some time, probably at least a year, but it’s really a series not to be missed, regardless of whether you think you like anime or not.
